Waters, Parenteau battle past Black, Jones to make women’s doubles final
Anna Leigh Waters/Catherine Parenteau kicked off women’s doubles semifinal action with an 11-1, 12-10 victory over No. 3 seeds Tyra Black/Allyce Jones.
The top seeds dominated the opening game, but Game 2 was a different story.
Black/Jones—two players who are known for their ability to extend rallies with their athleticism and defense—raised their level and had a chance to force a decisive third game at 10-6.
But Waters/Parenteau reeled off six straight points from there to close out the encounter in just under 40 minutes.
Waters applauded Black for her level in the second game.
“In the second game, Tyra was just going balls to the wall,” she noted. “She was speeding up, playing super aggressive, taking a lot of the court, and we really had to adjust to that and try to figure out ways to get the ball behind her and attack when we could.”
No. 2 seeds Anna Bright/Rachel Rohrabacher await in the final.
