Waters, Parenteau overcome slow start against Dizon, Tuionetoa to make women’s doubles final
Anna Leigh Waters/Catherine Parenteau are into the women’s doubles final after an 11-8, 11-3 victory over No. 4 seeds Meghan Dizon/Etta Tuionetoa.
Even though the final score line seems fairly straightforward, it wasn’t always smooth sailing for the top seeds.
Dizon/Tuionetoa—playing together for the first time since Worlds—came out strong jumped out to a 7-1 advantage in the opening game.
But the lead wouldn’t last; Waters/Parenteau kicked into gear and scored 21 of the match’s final 25 points to make it to Championship Sunday.
“We know that they’re a very good team, and we weren’t playing badly or using the wrong game plan. We just had to focus on making more balls because the conditions were difficult,” Parenteau said of the slow start. “It’s a little colder than it was earlier, which makes the ball harder, so that can make it a challenge to get up to the kitchen. I felt like we did a really good job of bringing the energy after the start.”
Waters/Parenteau will face No. 2 seeds Anna Bright/Rachel Rohrabacher in the final.
