Waters, Parenteau sweep Bright, Rohrabacher for women’s doubles crown
Anna Leigh Waters and Catherine Parenteau got some revenge in the second match of the day on with an 11-2, 11-7, 11-4 victory over No. 2 seeds Anna Bright and Rachel Rohrabacher.
It was a rematch of the final from last month’s CIBC Atlanta Slam, which Bright and Rohrabacher took in four games to hand Waters and Parenteau their second-ever loss as a partnership.
The top seeds were happy to avoid a similar result in Virginia Beach,
“It feels really good,” Waters said of the victory. “Losing is never fun, but I think we learned a lot from it, and it made us a better team.”
Waters—who now has 12 titles with Parenteau in 2024—will play two more matches on Sunday as she goes for her 29th career Triple Crown: mixed doubles with Ben Johns and women’s singles against Brooke Buckner.
In the bronze medal match, No. 9 seeds Jorja Johnson and Mari Humberg defeated No. 4 seeds Lea Jansen and Callie Smith by an 11-0, 11-6 score line.
