Women's singles final at Nationals was must-watch pickleball
DALLAS, TX - The 2023 Biofreeze USA Pickleball National Championships concluded in style on Sunday with a memorable singles showdown between the two best women's players on the planet - Anna Leigh Waters and Catherine Parenteau.
After winning the gender doubles and mixed doubles titles earlier in the day, Waters was looking to cap her tournament by completing her 20th career Triple Crown on the PPA Tour and officially surpass World No. 1 Ben Johns for the most all-time in that department.
Waters and Parenteau are doubles partners, of course, which always makes for an interesting affair when the pair go head-to-head on Championship Court.
The sold-out crowd at Brookhaven Country Club was treated to a remarkable display of shot-making as Waters ultimately defeated Parenteau 11-6, 7-11, 12-10 to secure her 14th singles gold medal of the season.
Given the way things played out, especially in the final game where Waters staved off four championship points, this world-class contest defintiely deserves another look.
Both Waters and Parenteau are in the field for this week's Hertz Gold Cup presented by TIXR, which begins on Thursday at Pictona in Daytona Beach, FL.
