Our latest blog post breaks down the differences between these scenarios in pickleball tournaments and, more importantly, clarifies which ones count towards your dynamic universal pickleball rating (DUPR).

Forfeit: Failure to appear for a scheduled match and generally does not count for DUPR. There are some nuances here, so read our full article!
Withdrawal: Withdrawing from tournament before stepping onto the court for your first match and generally does not count for DUPR.
Retire: Player begins a match but then has to stop playing. These do count towards DUPR based on the score at the time of retirement.

Protect Your Eyes on the Court
|
 |
|
Pickleball is getting faster, and eye protection is no longer optional – it's essential! Top pros are already setting the standard, and it's time for you to also prioritize your sight.
With that in mind, what kind of eyewear should you seek out?
We spoke with Dr. Keith Charles, an opthalmology specialst with over 35 years experience, who encourages, "for protection, wear polycarbonate glasses. They’re basically safety glasses, but you can get really nice sunglasses with polycarbonate lenses”.
He also shared some additional insight on a specific eyewear material that could do more harm than good on the pickleball court.
“What can be counterproductive is if you have glass lenses, which is almost hard to find because most lenses are at least plastic. But, if you get hit with a regular pair of glasses and then that lens breaks, now you have a sharp object that can hit the eye. If you’re going to wear them, wear the right ones, and those would be polycarbonate lenses,” concluded Dr. Charles.
It's time to take the leap and invest in eyewear! Our partners at Pickleball Central are a great place to begin your search for protective eyewear. There are several excellent options for polycarbonate lenses that will keep you safe during all your future practice sessions and matches alike.
