Kawamoto sisters on pickleball life: 'It’s a lot of time away from home, but we enjoy it a lot'
Playing doubles alongside your sibling should generally have more positives than negatives, right?
Twins Jade Kawamoto and Jackie Kawamoto are perfect candidates to comment on the subject.
“The fighting on the court hasn’t changed,” said Jade, in a Daily Journal story by reporter Mike Beas published on Thursday. “But we don’t carry that off the court. Off the court, we’re fine. We’ve just always done it, so we don’t take it too seriously.”

In other words, what happens on the 20x44, stays on the 20x44, which is exactly the way things should be to maintain a healthy relationship.
It's definitely working because Jade and Jackie are especially close.
The sisters reside just 10 minutes apart in the Indianapolis suburb of Plainfield, IN and they are colleagues at the NCAA National Office as well.
"Jade is on the building’s first floor as an Assistant Director in the Eligibility Center, while Jackie, Assistant Coordinator of Championships and Alliances, does her work in a fourth-floor office," writes Beas.
NCAA officials fully support their respective pickleball careers, so traveling to PPA Tour and MLP events and working remotely from time to time is just fine.
Beas reports that Jade and Jackie were introduced to America's fastest-growing sport by their father in 2018, shortly after graduating from the University of Dayton where they were tennis stars.
“I picked up on it pretty quick, and Jade followed after that,” recalled Jackie. “The first thing that draws people in is the social aspect of it. It’s definitely a sport that all these years later we pick up new tricks, and see the growth of the game and the technology. I started playing with a wooden paddle back in the day.”
Jade and Jackie have come a long way since then, of course, now plying their trade on the biggest stages in the game.
And they wouldn't have it any other way.
“We’re probably on the road at least 20 weeks this year,” said Jade. “It’s a lot of time away from home, but we enjoy it a lot. It wasn’t easy at first, getting away so much. But we’ve done a lot better job planning our trips, and figuring out when we’re going to be away and when we’re going to be home.”
