Michael Loyd says marriage proposal in Hawaii was 'everything we wanted'
Michael Loyd recently proposed to his longtime girlfriend, Juliet Steinhauer, and shared exclusive details about the unforgettable moment.
Knowing Steinhauer had been following Amanda Kioko, a photographer based in Hawaii, Loyd reached out to her for help scouting the ideal location to get down on one knee.
“Amanda picked out this awesome spot in Kahana Beach near the North Shore of Oahu. It was super secluded, and not many people were out there at all. It was awesome,” said Loyd. “There’s this cool mountain in the backdrop and it’s on the beach. It was really everything we wanted.”
Loyd popped the question on the very first day of their getaway.
“I was super nervous. I’m definitely somebody who’s super calm and I’m good at public speaking, so I had something written out and prepared beforehand. But I half blacked out and ended up being more off the cuff. But the sentiment was there and she was crying, so I think I did a good job with it. I was beaming for the entire trip afterwards,” he explained.
“She definitely had an idea of what was going on, but I made it as much of a surprise as I could. She loved the ring, too. it was customized to look exactly like what she wanted, so I’m glad I got that right,” he added.
Other than informing close family and friends, Loyd and Steinhauer chose to keep the news private for a while before announcing it publicly.
“We waited a couple of days before we told anybody or posted on Instagram because we wanted to just enjoy the trip together,” he mentioned. “I love calling her my fiancé now.”
The proposal marked a full-circle moment for the couple. A few years earlier, Loyd had asked Steinhauer to be his girlfriend in Hawaii, making the state especially meaningful to their love story. Now, they’re even considering returning for a destination wedding.
Loyd added that he’s excited for everything that comes with married life.
“I’m super big on my faith, so I really do believe in two becoming one and everything that God has in store for marriage and its design. I’m super excited to have somebody to truly be my other half, and I can’t think of anybody better to spend life with and to have by my side for all life’s moments,” he emphasized.
“I know a lot of guys say they’re looking forward to having a wife, but I’m also really looking forward to being a husband and eventually being a dad one day. We want to start a family someday, and I’m just really looking forward to building a family with her,” he continued.
Speaking of family, Loyd made sure to ask Steinhauer’s father for his blessing before proposing.
“I got her dad John’s permission. He’s an awesome, very chill and mellow guy. I had a whole thing written up to ask him. We went on a walk together, and before I could even get half of the question out, he just grabbed me and gave me a big hug,” recounted Loyd. “It was an awesome moment, and I’m honestly just looking forward to being a part of their family and for Jules to be a part of mine.”
