Pickle Peacock: Anna Bright’s mom turns pickleball merch into playful art
Anna Bright has no shortage of fans, but none more devoted than her mother, Liping.
A familiar face on the pro pickleball circuit, Liping has carved out her own following with Pickle Peacock, a t-shirt line featuring playful, often humorous graphics inspired by her daughter.
“Pickleball is fun, so our logo and our clothes should be fun, too,” said Liping. “I named my brand Pickle Peacock because I like pickleball and I love peacocks. Peacocks also have a good meaning. It means good fortune, luck, and brings you health and a long life. Peacocks also make my designs more interesting.”
Built around humor and joy, Liping’s brand aims to make people smile, and Anna is just as entertained by her mom’s designs as everyone else.
“I think the shirts are amazing. They’re iconic,” praised Anna, who has worn her mom’s t-shirts at tournaments many times. “The funniest ones are where I have a super defined eight pack and that's definitely not me. She’s spent a lot of hours on ChatGPT generating those images of me. The most ridiculous ones are the ones where I’m like a centaur, but the bottom half of me is a peacock. I’m always telling her to chill on making new designs and just sell the ones she has, but she’s a creative, so she keeps creating.”
Liping’s designs are truly one of a kind, depicting Anna as everything from a warrior princess to a peacock to a bodybuilder—playful creations that are guaranteed to brighten your day.
“It’s really funny when people purchase the shirts and they think they’re supporting me, which of course they are. I’m super appreciative, but my mom is definitely profiting off the NIL, the name, image, and likeness of me,”mentioned Bright. “It’s totally valid, though. She birthed me, she carried me, raised me, so it’s fair for her to do it, but it’s just funny.”
But Liping’s creativity extends beyond her daughter’s pickleball game.
She also draws inspiration from Anna’s life off the court, including one of her favorite designs, which was inspired by Anna’s hike on the Pacific Northwest Trail and features pine trees that echo the tattoo on Anna’s leg commemorating the journey.
“When people see her on the court, she’s so strong. But what’s behind it is her big personality and she’s challenged herself even before she started pickleball,” revealed Liping. “I like to show more sides of her.”
Pickle Peacock shirts have become a familiar sight at PPA and MLP tournaments, worn by Anna, fellow pros, junior players, fans, and spectators alike, all drawn to the brand’s cool designs.
“I love seeing her and the other pros wearing my shirts,” said Liping. “It’s just so funny.”
Beyond drawing creative inspiration from her daughter, Liping beams with pride at the woman Anna has grown into.
“I’m glad that she keeps making progress,” said Liping. “You have to be humble in sports because everyone is improving, so I’m glad that she has that attitude to keep improving in the game and getting better and better.”
Next time you’re at a tournament, keep an eye out for Pickle Peacock at the venue.
