The life of a pro pickleball WAG: Brit Loong

Ever wonder what it’s like being married to a pro pickleball player?

Tyler Loong’s wife, Brit, provided the inside scoop.

“Tyler has always played pickleball ever since we got married. Obviously, pro pickleball has changed a lot since then, so he’s traveling more now,” she said. “But it’s what he’s always done. He never had a desk job or a 9-to-5 career, so it’s all I’ve ever known.”

So how did Tyler and Brit meet?

“We met when we were in college at BYU. It was actually kind of an interesting situation. Tyler dated my roommate, and I dated someone who was on the tennis team with him,” she shared. “I knew who Tyler was, just from seeing him around, and I always thought he was really cute. When I first met him, I thought he was really funny and he would joke around with me and give me a hard time. I guess I always thought he was a little annoying, but it was all in good fun, and I loved his sense of humor.”

It seems like the old adage must be true: If a boy teases you, it’s because he likes you.

“Then we reconnected a couple of years later after college and we’ve been together ever since,” Brit added.

And in 2015, they tied the knot.

In 2020, they welcomed their first baby girl, Ivy. And in 2021, they welcomed their second, Blair.

The girls are a little older now, of course, but Brit explained that it’s still tough to travel to tournaments with two little ones.

“I don’t travel to tournaments with him very often because our girls are young, but when I do, I’ll bring them and we’ll make a fun trip out of it,” she said. “San Clemente is one of our favorites, but sometimes I’ll just fly to the tournaments by myself and leave the girls at home because it’s a lot harder to travel with kids between the flights, hotels, and long days. But it’s really fun to see him be able to do something that he loves and he’s really passionate about. Yes, it’s still work, but it doesn’t feel burdensome for him to go to work every day. I love that he’s able to do something that he loves, and it’s so good for us to support him doing that.”

Though they have a beautiful pickleball court in their backyard, Brit shared that she doesn’t play too often with Tyler.

“I play pickleball with some friends, but I’m not super competitive about it. I actually don’t think it’s helpful at all for him to play with me,” she mentioned. “Sometimes Tyler and I will go in the backyard and hit around, which is always fun, but he’s not competitive with me at all. Half the time when he and I are out there playing he’s either barefoot or in sandals and not taking it seriously at all. We’re just out there having fun.”
