Thomas Wilson is a widely respected player in the professional pickleball ranks, so people have been crossing their fingers and praying for some good news in his medical journey to return to the court at some point in the future.

Late Wednesday night, Wilson updated his health status via Instagram in a video with his wife, Brittany, and daughter, Holyn, by his side.

It marked the first update from Wilson since early December when he revealed that he would be meeting with specialists at National Jewish Health in Denver, which provides care for respiratory, cardiac, immune, and related disorders.

"They diagnosed me with what's called a breathing pattern disorder, so basically my brain is not telling my lungs to breathe properly. I'm breathing eratically, causing me to hyperventilate, and just not breathing properly and constantly feeling short of breath, so we're very thankful that we have a piece of the puzzle," he confirmed. "I'm still going back there probably once a month for treatment just to keep digging, just to get to the bottom of all this. It was a long time coming getting an answer like that, so we have some hope now that it's treatable and it's something I can work through over time."

Wilson's fellow athletes, members of the picklesphere, and fans quickly took to social media to comment on the post and show him and his family some love.

It sounds like things are moving in the right direction.

"In the meantime, we're still going to be involved with pickleball. We're going to be more active on social media, maybe traveling some. I have some exciting announcements coming over the next couple of weeks. As a family, we're just so thankful for everyone's support," he added. "The pickleball world has changed our lives, like it changes a lot of people's lives. Even though I'm not on court, still the support that I've gotten, that we've gotten from people I know, people I don't know, has been amazing, so we're excited to keep moving forward and hoping to get back involved on the court with the PPA Tour."

Then, it was Brittany's turn to share her thoughts on everything that has transpired in recent weeks and months with her husband's case.

Like him, she's eternally grateful for the unwavering support they've received.

"This journey has been kind of crazy for our family. It totally flipped our life upside down. It was really hard walking through this, and Thomas too not being able to play and do what he loves was hard, but we've been really blessed to work with some top doctors finally at National Jewish Health in Denver. They work with Olympic athletes, so we are so blessed that they have taken on Thomas' case and helped us come up with a diagnosis, and still trying to figure out more as well regarding his health," she said. "We just personally want to thank all the fans that have sent such sweet messages to us. People have been sending us Uber gift cards, just all kinds of really nice, thoughtful things while we've been going through this, and it's just meant so much to us."

We're obviously looking forward to more good news from the Wilsons as it comes.
