Collin Shick burst onto the pickleball scene with a bang in March 2023, marking his debut in style at the Florida Open. Despite being a newcomer, he navigated through the qualifying rounds in singles and advanced to Championship Sunday in his inaugural PPA Tour event. Although he faced a formidable opponent in World No. 1 Ben Johns, Shick showcased his talent and determination, ultimately securing a silver medal.
Before his pickleball prowess came to light, Shick excelled in collegiate tennis at North Carolina State University, where he pursued a degree in chemical engineering. His contributions helped propel the Wolfpack to No. 6 in the NCAA rankings, and he earned an impressive No. 27 spot in the NCAA doubles rankings individually. Following graduation, Shick embarked on a new academic journey, entering medical school at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2022. With a keen interest in sports medicine and orthopedics, he aspires to make a difference in the world of athletics.
Despite his busy schedule, Shick found solace and excitement in pickleball, drawn to its reminiscent thrill of NCAA competition and his love for tennis. Alongside his pickleball pursuits, he indulges in his passion for golf and rock climbing, showcasing his adventurous spirit and diverse interests beyond the court. Alongside his silver medal, Shick also boasts a bronze medal on the PPA Tour, solidifying his presence as a rising star in the pickleball community.
