Mehvish Safdar was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, with her parents having immigrated to the U.S. from Pakistan to work as medical doctors. She grew up playing competitive tennis following the lead of her two older sisters. Mehvish was a former 3x Ohio state tennis champion, top 10 U.S. nationally ranked junior tennis player, 5-star college tennis recruit, and a nationally ranked DI college tennis player on a full athletic scholarship on a nationally ranked DI big ten conference team at the University of Minnesota.
Mehvish's pickleball journey began in 2021—on the same day she had her wisdom teeth removed. However, it wasn’t until the summer of 2024 that she fully committed to training and competing at the highest level. Now a UPA/PPA signed touring pro, she achieved a top 50 PPA tour ranking in 2024 and was selected as the 13th overall draft pick for the Utah Black Diamonds in the 2025 MLP season. She has also been a dominant force in collegiate pickleball, winning two individual national titles and earning a #1 national collegiate ranking while representing Indiana University. Mehvish has previously primarily competed in pro women’s doubles with her sister, Komal Safdar, also a former Division I tennis player and medical doctor. Mehvish excels on both the right and left side in doubles play.
Off the court, Mehvish is pursuing a Ph.D. in sport psychology, with a passion for helping athletes sharpen their mental game to optimize performance. Balancing professional pickleball with her academic aspirations, she is committed to reaching her full potential as an athlete and future sport psychologist.
