Tesla enters pickleball market via paddle venture with Selkirk
The Tesla Plaid Pickleball Paddle by Selkirk was announced on Friday.
Developed by engineers from both companies, the co-designed paddle retails for $350 USD and comes with a paddle bag.
Although currently out of stock, limited quantities will be released via the Tesla website on Monday, December 22.
"Inspired by the aerodynamic design of Tesla vehicles, the Tesla Plaid Pickleball Paddle by Selkirk is a technologically advanced paddle co-created from the ground up through relentless testing and ideation," according to the official product description on the Tesla website.
"Every curve and layer was engineered and optimized for high performance play. Together with Selkirk, we have created a paddle that unifies Tesla’s first-principles approach to product development and Selkirk’s industry-leading manufacturing expertise."
What’s the backstory behind the product's creation?
"This paddle is the result of a conversation between Selkirk Co-Owner & Director of Research & Development Tom Barnes and Tesla's Director of Product Design Javier Verdura that revealed a shared passion for quality and performance," according to the official product description.
"Months of collaboration, research and development generated a one-of-a-kind paddle designed to level up your game. Integrated weights, an edgeless design, and an open throat face come together to maximize swing aerodynamics."
