3 things to watch for on Friday at PPA Texas
The Veolia Texas Open presented by Proton continues Friday with quarterfinal action in all five pro events, as players fight through rainy and windy conditions in North Texas.
Here is the order of play:
Now, let’s get into what to watch for.
- The women’s singles draw saw some notable upsets on Thursday that have made for some intriguing quarterfinal matchups. No. 12 seed Isabella Dunlap beat No. 6 seed Catherine Parenteau 7-11, 11-3, 11-4 before qualifier and No. 37 seed Kelsey Laurente beat No. 9 seed Liz Truluck by an 11-4, 4-11, 11-8 score line. Dunlap will next face No. 2 seed Kate Fahey in the day’s first match on Humana Championship Court, while Laurente will take on No. 4 seed Brooke Buckner in the third match on Carvana Grandstand Court.
- One of the day’s most enticing matchups come from the mixed doubles draw, where No. 4 seeds Jessie Irvine/Christian Alshon will face No. 6 seeds Catherine Parenteau/Gabe Tardio. There is no shortage of familiarity between all four players in this one, since Parenteau/Alshon and Irvine/Tardio played several tournaments together during the 2024 and 2025 seasons and frequently made it to the podium stand. Irvine/Alshon will be looking to make the semifinals in their first tournament together since March of 2024 in what will be the fifth contest on Humana Championship Court.
- And in men’s doubles, No. 10 seeds Noe Khlif/Blaine Hovenier are through to the quarterfinals after a 4-11, 11-1, 11-3 victory over No. 6 seeds Dekel Bar/Matt Wright on Thursday. ‘Team Dallas’ will be looking to continue their run on Friday when they face No. 4 seeds Andrei Daescu/Federico Staksrud in what will be the day’s final bout on Humana Championship Court.
Live broadcast coverage from the Courts at McKinney Pickleball and Tennis Center will be available starting at 10am CT on Pickleballtv.
