3 things to watch for on Sunday at MLP Dallas

The Major League Pickleball season continues Sunday at MLP Dallas, where 11 teams are in action across four days in the Lone Star State.

The first three days feature Group Play before the top 4 teams from each group advance to the Standing Point matches on Monday. See updated group standings after Saturday’s matches here.

Here are the groups for this week’s event:

  • Group A: Columbus Sliders, Dallas Flash, New Jersey 5s, Orlando Squeeze, and Phoenix Flames
  •
  • Group B: Bay Area Breakers, Carolina Hogs, St. Louis Shock, Los Angeles Mad Drops, Texas Ranchers, and Utah Black Diamonds
  •

Here is the order of play:

Now, let’s get into what to watch for.

  • The Dallas Flash are switching up their mixed doubles pairings for their final Group Play match against the Columbus Sliders. This move will reunite Tyra Black and Augie Ge after they posted a 44-24 record together through the 2024 and 2025 MLP seasons. It also sets up Brooke Buckner and JW Johnson to play together for the very first time. Both pairings will need to be sharp heading into a massive clash with the defending champions that will be the opening match on Championship Court.

  • In Group B, the St. Louis Shock and Los Angeles Mad Drops will face off in a match that will likely decide who finishes in the top spot in this group. Both teams enter Sunday with a 3-0 record, with all three victories coming in regulation. The X-factor here will be Max Freeman, who is playing men’s doubles with Ben Johns for the very first time at this event. This will be the day’s final contest on Championship Court and could serve as a preview of what fans could be in store for when the playoffs begin in August.

  • Another noteworthy matchup in Group B will feature the Texas Ranchers taking on the Utah Black Diamonds. Both teams are 1-2, with their only losses coming against the aforementioned St. Louis and Los Angeles squads. Connor Garnett/Tama Shimabukuro have yet to lose in men’s doubles, so they figure to be the collective X-factor heading into a match that will likely decide who finishes in third and fourth place in this group. This will be the day’s second contest on Grandstand Court.
