3 things to watch for on Thursday at PPA Texas
The Veolia Texas Open presented by Proton continues Thursday with Round of 16 action in all five pro events, as players fight through rainy and windy conditions in North Texas.
Here is the order of play:
Now, let’s get into what to watch for.
- In men’s singles, 15-year-old Tama Shimabukuro is into the Round of 16 after a stunning 11-4, 12-10 victory over No. 4 seed Connor Garnett on Wednesday. The No. 27 seed will look to continue his run on Thursday when he faces No. 22 seed Rafa Hewett in what will be the first meeting between the two. This will be the day’s fourth match on Showcase Court 1.
- In mixed doubles, Nicole Conard/Juan Benitez are on quite the run after back-to-back three-game victories over No. 20 seeds Brooke Buckner/Pablo Tellez and No. 13 seeds Lacy Schneemann/Jonathan Truong. The No. 46 seeds, who had not competed together before this week, will next face No. 3 seeds Anna Bright/Hayden Patriquin, who are looking to return to Championship Sunday after a quarterfinal exit last week in Newport Beach. This will be the fifth match on Showcase Court 1.
- And in men’s doubles, one of the day’s most intriguing matchups features No. 5 seeds Eric Oncins/Dylan Frazier taking on No. 11 seeds Armaan Bhatia/Pablo Tellez. Oncins/Frazier nearly pulled off the upset against Hayden Patriquin/Christian Alshon in Newport Beach, so they will be looking to maintain their high level against a dangerous first-time partnership in Bhatia/Tellez. This will also take place on Showcase Court 1, as the seventh contest.
Live broadcast coverage from the Courts at McKinney Pickleball and Tennis Center will be available starting at 10am CT on Pickleballtv.
