3 things to watch for on Tuesday at PPA Mesa
Main draw competition at the Carvana Mesa Cup begins Tuesday with early round action in all five pro events.
Here is the week’s broadcast schedule:
Now, let’s get into what to watch for.
- This tournament presents a challenge in preparation, especially for the players who competed in the gold medal and bronze medal matches on Sunday in Cape Coral, FL. Since then, they have had to fly across the country and acclimate to considerably different conditions in the Arizona desert, which could open the door to some potential challenges earlier in the week. This could be especially prevalent in the mixed doubles draw, where every team—even top seeds Anna Leigh Waters and Ben Johns—will be in action on Tuesday.
- Speaking of Ben Johns, the 26-year-old is set to compete in the singles draw for the first time since the World Championships back in November. He’s down to the No. 10 seed as a result of his time away from the event, but he has a history of success at this tournament as the two-time defending champion. Johns will face either Blaine Hovenier or Armaan Jiwa Mawji in the Round of 64.
- Jack Sock will also make his return to competition on Tuesday after missing the last two events with a hamstring injury that he suffered in the men’s singles final of the PPA Masters in January. The former tennis star had a strong start to 2026 by making the quarterfinals of all three events for the first time in his career and will be looking to pick up where he left off this week. Sock will return as the No. 7 seed in men’s singles, the No. 24 seed in mixed doubles with Lacy Schneemann, and No. 10 seed in men’s doubles with Pablo Tellez.
Live broadcast coverage from the Arizona Athletic Grounds will be available on the PPA Streamed Courts YouTube at 9:30am CT before transitioning to Pickleballtv at 11am CT.
