3 things to watch for on Wednesday at PPA Sacramento
The Fasenra Sacramento Open presented by Zimmer Biomet continues Wednesday with Round of 32 action in all five pro events.
Here is the week's broadcast schedule:
Now, let’s get into what to watch for.
- Troy Akin and Eddy Kim are the only two men’s singles qualifiers still in the draw after picking up impressive victories on Tuesday. Akin defeated No. 13 seed Adam Harvey 11-6, 9-11, 11-4, while Kim took down No. 15 seed Rafa Lenhard by an 11-3, 11-4 score line. Those two—seeded No. 49 and No. 51, respectively—will be looking to advance to the final 16 in Sacramento on Wednesday. Akin will face No. 22 seed Spartak Rahachou on Court 9, while Kim will take on No. 21 seed Tom Protzek on Court 7.
- In women’s singles, Judit Castillo is currently 550 points behind Genie Bouchard for the final qualifying spot for the PPA Finals. With Bouchard not competing this week, Castillo can overtake the Wimbledon finalist with a finish of third place or better in Sacramento. The No. 5 seed will kick off her campaign against No. 27 seed Giovanna Morelli in the day’s third contest on Court 8.
- One of the day’s most intriguing matchups features No. 13 seeds Lacy Schneemann/Hunter Johnson taking on No. 17 seeds Callie Smith/Roscoe Bellamy in mixed doubles. Johnson and Bellamy are on opposite sides of the draw in men’s singles, but they are partners in men’s doubles this week, so Wednesday’s bout will have something extra on the line. This will be the fifth match of the day on Court 7.
Live broadcast coverage from Life Time Arden will be available starting at 10am PT on the PPA Streamed Courts YouTube and Pickleballtv.
