3 things to watch for on Wednesday at PPA Texas
The Veolia Texas Open presented by Proton continues Wednesday with Round of 32 action in all five pro events, as players fight through rainy and windy conditions in North Texas.
Here is the order of play:
Now, let’s get into what to watch for.
- 16-year-old Andrew Caldarella should have no shortage of confidence after his 11-6, 11-6 victory over No. 16 seed Rafa Lenhard on Tuesday. The No. 56 seed will look to advance to the final 16 on Wednesday when he faces No. 22 seed Rafa Hewett in what will be the first meeting between the two. This will be the fourth match of the day on Court 15.
- In mixed doubles, No. 12 seeds Lea Jansen/Dylan Frazier will take on No. 24 seeds Liz Truluck/James Delgado. If this matchup sounds familiar, that’s because it is; these two faced off just last week in Newport Beach, with Jansen/Frazier winning by an 11-3, 11-8 score line. Truluck/Delgado will hope to avoid a similar fate on Wednesday in what will be the sixth contest on Showcase Court 2.
- And in men’s doubles, Tama Shimabukuro/Yuta Funemizu are teaming up for the first time since their quarterfinal run in Cape Coral last month. The No. 22 seeds will face the first-time partnership of Armaan Bhatia/Pablo Tellez with a spot in the Round of 16 up for grabs. This will be the day’s seventh match on Showcase Court 4.
Action from The Courts at McKinney Pickleball and Tennis Center will begin at 10am CT (weather permitting), with matches being streamed via the PPA Firefight Zone broadcast on the PBTV app, the PPA Streamed Courts YouTube, and the Pickleballtv YouTube.
