All eyes were on Genie Bouchard at The Masters on Wednesday.

Bouchard debuts at PPA Masters, begins pickleball journey

PALM SPRINGS, CA - Genie Bouchard showed flashes of the talented pickleball athlete she can be with time, practice, and experience on Wednesday at the PPA Masters.

The 29-year-old Canadian - and former Wimbledon singles finalist - debuted on the PPA Tour with plenty of eyes watching her every move both in the stands at Mission Hills Country Club and on YouTube and PickleballTV.

Bouchard’s day began with an 11-1, 11-7 loss to Ekaterina Biakina in singles on Humana Championship Court.

After a disappointing opening game, she made some key adjustments to challenge Biakina and generated some quality points to the delight of the crowd.

Bouchard then teamed up with veteran Tyler Loong in mixed doubles.

The pair ultimately fell 11-5, 11-2 to the veteran duo of Etta Wright and Pablo Tellez.

Bouchard's tournament concluded with a loss in gender doubles alongside Chao Yi Wang.

Unlike her previous matches, however, this one went the distance.

The duo was defeated in three games - 5-11, 11-4, 11-5 - by Malia Lum and Trang Huynh-McClain.
