Bright, Rohrabacher march into women’s doubles final over Black, Jones
Anna Bright/Rachel Rohrabacher emerged victorious from the first women’s doubles semifinal with an 11-5, 11-8 victory over No. 4 seeds Tyra Black/Allyce Jones.
It had taken the top seeds three games to beat Black/Jones in their previous two matches, but they got it done in just two on Saturday.
Near the end of Game 1, Black took a medical timeout that caused her to leave the court for 15 minutes, but she was fortunately able to continue playing in the contest.
Less than a week removed from their title at Worlds, ‘The Girlies’ are looking to maintain their high level going into Sunday’s final and beyond.
"We just want to end our regular season on a high note and keep riding the momentum that we’ve been building during the latter half of the year,” Bright said. “I think we’ve been to a lot of finals in a row, which is something we’re really proud of.”
Bright’s not wrong; she and Rohrabacher have made it to Championship Sunday in the last seven tournaments that they have played together.
The last tournament where they were eliminated before the final was the Select Medical Orange County Cup back in June, where they fell to Jessie Irvine/Tina Pisnik in the quarterfinals.
Bright/Rohrabacher will face off against a sister duo in the final: either Jackie Kawamoto/Jade Kawamoto or Mary Brascia/Maggie Brascia.
