Brascia, Fought upset Bright, Ignatowich in Round of 16
CARY, NC – We've got another major upset in the Tar Heel State.
Maggie Brascia and Todd Fought upset the second-seeded mixed doubles tandem of Anna Bright and James Ignatowich in the Round of 16 on Thursday at the North Carolina Cup, posting an 11-4, 11-7 victory.
It marked the first time Brascia and Fought were playing together at a tournament.
“I’m feeling amazing,” said Fought after advancing to the quarterfinals. “Last minute got in the mixed draw, and here we are heading into the quarters. I couldn’t be happier.”
“We came out here with no expectations, just looking to have fun, and now we’ve gotten two good wins, so this is super exciting,” added Brascia.
As for their recipe for success against Bright and Ignatowich...
“We just kept smiling the whole time,” noted Brascia. “But also, we were really solid at the kitchen. Our dinks were strong and we felt confident with those points.”
On Friday, the pair will face ninth-seeded Lea Jansen and Hayden Patriquin.
