Citrus Classic PPA Challenger Recap: Mack, Walker double down as Mendez goes back-to-back
The PPA Challenger Series powered by JOOLA held its ninth event of the year over the weekend with the Citrus Classic PPA Challenger in Kissimmee, FL.
Luca Mack and Angie Walker were the big winners of the weekend, with both players taking home two gold medals each.
Mack struck gold in men’s singles and men’s doubles alongside Anouar Braham.
The singles title—clinched with a three-game victory over Connor Mogle in the final—is his second on the Challenger tour.
In men’s doubles, Mack/Braham captured the title with a win over Mikael Vollbach/Bruno Faletto in the final.
Angie Walker had similar success, earning women’s doubles gold with her sister Alex Walker and mixed doubles gold with James Delgado.
The Walker sisters defeated Danna Funaro/Zoey Weil to claim their second women’s doubles title of the year.
In mixed doubles, Walker/Delgado clinched the triumph after a three-game battle against Alex Walker/Ryan Fu. This win gives Walker her second mixed doubles title of the season, and Delgado his third.
Walker will reunite with both partners at this week’s Veolia Cincinnati Showcase presented by Six Zero.
And finally, Seone Mendez secured her second consecutive women’s singles title with an 11-2, 12-10 victory over Kelsey Laurente in the final.
Mendez will look to build on this performance this week in Ohio, where she qualified for the main draw on Monday morning.
Live broadcast coverage from the third slam of the year begins Tuesday on Pickleballtv.
