Walker, Scarpa Triple Crown at New England PPA Challenger

Angie Walker and Anderson Scarpa stole the show at the New England PPA Challenger this past weekend by earning Triple Crowns at the event, which took place at The Picklr in Westbrook, Maine.

Both players started off by earning their respective singles titles on Friday.

They followed that up with gender doubles triumphs on Saturday, with Scarpa winning with Greg Dow and Walker winning alongside her sister, Alex.

Finally, Walker and Scarpa teamed up to the take the mixed doubles crown on Sunday to close out the Triple Crown effort.

“I’m so, so excited. The goal of coming here was to win my matches and put some things I’ve been practicing to work, and I’m just really happy,” Walker said after the mixed doubles final. “I think any time that you get match play in a pressurized situation, it’s going to be good for your game. You can’t really replicate that feeling of pressure when you’re out on the court in any other situation than coming to compete.”

For Scarpa, these wins only give him more confidence as he prepares to take the court with Walker and Dow again at this week’s Veolia Atlanta Pickleball Championships.

“I came here to get the Triple Crown, honestly, and feel good to have accomplished that goal. We feel ready for Atlanta now,” he shared. “At these main PPA events, I’ll occasionally have a good run—maybe a Round of 16 or a quarter—but a lot of times you’re playing top seeds in the first round or two. It can be tough to get a rhythm going to these tournaments sometimes, so it’s good to come here and get a lot of matches. I’m really happy with the weekend.”

Even though Walker and Scarpa might be walking away with the hardware, it was Max Wild who hit the shot of the weekend (and, perhaps, the year) on the PPA Tour.

There are 12 more stops on the Challenger Series Tour where players can earn points that go towards their rankings.

The four players with the most rankings points throughout the season will qualify for the PPA Challenger Showdown, which will take place at the 2025 Pickleball World Championships this November in Dallas, Texas.

The winners of the PPA Challenger Showdown in each event will be awarded a PPA Tour contract.
