Fahey battles past Wang, triumphs in women’s singles
Kate Fahey captured the women’s singles title in Milwaukee with an 11-5, 5-11, 11-9 victory over No. 8 seed Zoey Wang.
The match featured impressive ball striking and athleticism from all sides, as both players hit several volleys on full extension as they tried to return each other’s blazing passing shots.
After players split the first two games by identical score lines, the match continued to be neck-and-neck late into the third.
At 9-9 in the deciding game, though, Fahey scored two in a row to close out the tense encounter and secure her third title of 2024.
The key to coming out on top was being aggressive in the big moments.
“Honestly, it could have gone either way,” Fahey said of the final game. “It was just about who was willing to be a little bit more brave, and I was fortunate to come away with it.”
Fahey’s rise to the top of women’s singles has been one of the most intriguing stories of 2024, and the former digital product manager at American Express is taking no part of her journey for granted.
“Six months ago, I was working in a cubicle. I was commuting every morning to work in the cold and rain and snow, and now I get to travel all over the country and world playing pickleball. I’m so incredibly lucky and grateful to be playing,” she shared.
Thanks to her stellar second half of 2024, Fahey has qualified for the CIBC PPA Tour Finals in women’s singles.
The same is true for Parris Todd, who beat Judit Castillo 11-1, 11-5 in the bronze medal match.
