H. Johnson ends Haworth’s streak, snags 7th career singles title
Hunter Johnson secured his seventh career PPA men’s singles title with a dominant 11-6, 11-0 victory over No. 5 seed Chris Haworth.
Haworth had won back-to-back titles in Daytona Beach and Palm Springs, but Johnson put an end to that winning streak with clean ball striking from the baseline and took advantage of some uncharacteristic forehand errors from his opponent.
This result gives Johnson his first title since taking the top spot in the PPA Tour men’s singles rankings in back in August.
He spoke afterwards about what it means to protect his top ranking and how important his family is to his success.
“Last year was a little tough. I got the number one ranking and felt the pressure that comes with that,” he shared. “I just wanna thank God. My faith is a staple of how I do what I do. My family, they’re amazing and great support system.”
In the bronze medal match, No. 6 seed Roscoe Bellamy defeated No. 9 seed Dylan Frazier by an 11-8, 11-7 score line for his second consecutive podium finish.
