Haworth earns second straight men’s singles title as Sock suffers injury on match point

The PPA Masters tournament signifies the start of a new year in pro pickleball, but Chris Haworth is bringing his men’s singles success from 2025 into 2026.

After striking gold at the Daytona Beach Open in late December, Haworth conquered a full singles draw in Southern California this week, an effort that ended with an 11-8, 11-8 victory over No. 7 seed Jack Sock in Sunday's final.

Haworth spent most rallies looking to isolate the Sock backhand to limit his opponent’s chances to take over with his forehand.

“I think the last few times I’ve played Jack, I think he would even admit that his backhand has probably been his weakness, and I could tell that he’s definitely been working on that a lot in the offseason, so it was a little different tactically than our last couple of matches,” Haworth shared afterwards. “Before, I would just try to get into the backhand, and now I have to try and work the point all over the court.”

There was a scary moment on the final point of the contest when Sock fell to the ground after suffering what appeared to be a hamstring injury, but he was able to walk off the court with some assistance after a few moments.

Even on the heels of back-to-back singles titles, Haworth affirms that his main goal moving forward is week-to-week consistency.

“I think the biggest thing for me is consistency. Obviously, winning titles is amazing, but week in and week out I want to be fighting for those Championship Sunday spots, so I feel really happy that I did it this week,” he said.

In the bronze medal match, No. 9 seed Roscoe Bellamy defeated top-seeded Hunter Johnson by an 11-6, 11-3 score line.
