
Khlif surges into quarters with first win over top-seeded Staksrud
Coming into this week, Noe Khlif was 0-6 all-time against Federico Staksrud in men’s singles.
After a grueling 11-7, 4-11, 11-6 win on Wednesday afternoon, however, the Frenchman has ventured into the ‘win’ column for the very first time against the Argentine.
The contest was a stunning display of shot making and athleticism from both sides, with Khlif using smooth drops from the baseline to stay in rallies until he got a look at a forehand that he could drive past Staksrud.
The No. 13 seed says that he has been spending more time on the singles court in recent weeks, so a marquee win like Wednesday’s is coming at the perfect time.
“I feel like I’ve been practicing a little bit more singles lately,” he shared. “I really want to focus on singles more and am getting good results, so I’m happy that it’s already paying off.”
Khlif will take on No. 18 seed Cason Campbell in the quarterfinals.
