Koop, Kawamoto save two match points in thrilling victory over Bright, Rohrabacher
PEACHTREE CORNERS, GA - Andrea Koop and Jade Kawamoto are into the women’s doubles semifinals after an 8-11, 12-10, 11-4 victory over No. 2 seeds Anna Bright and Rachel Rohrabacher Friday evening.
It looked like Bright and Rohrabacher might take the win in two games when they had match points at 10-9 in Game 2, but the No. 9 seeds were able to turn the tide of the match behind their impressive resets and well-timed counterattacks from the kitchen line and transition zone.
“We probably played the best we could play,” Koop said of the triumphant effort.
Even fresh off of the upset victory, the pair knows that there is still a lot of work left to be done in the Georgia capital.
“We’re excited to be in the semis, but we’re not done,” shared Koop. “I’m gonna have to change my flight home for the second time now, but at least it’ll be on Sunday for sure.”
Next up for the pair is a match against No. 4 seeds Callie Smith and Lea Jansen on Semifinal Saturday.
