Miami avenges Mid-Season Tournament loss with regulation victory over Brooklyn
The Miami Pickleball Club is now 2-0 in New York City after a 3-1 victory over the Brooklyn Aces on Friday morning.
The teams split the gender doubles matches, with Miami taking women’s with a come-from-behind victory and Brooklyn earning the men’s doubles point.
Both mixed games went Miami’s way, though, with the pairings of Milan Rane and Eric Oncins and Bobbi Oshiro and Noe Khlif emerging triumphant to clinch the win.
Friday’s bout meant just a little more to the South Florida squad, since they fell to Brooklyn in a tight DreamBreaker the last time they faced off at the Mid-Season Tournament.
“It was my first match with the team back in Michigan a few months ago, and we lost a really close one after having match points,” Khlif recalled. “We really wanted to come out here and get revenge for that, so I think we all had a little extra energy and played better because of it.”
This is Miami’s first outing since that tournament, but the team has been making an effort to get some extra reps in at PPA tournaments in between MLP events.
“We’ve been taking initiative and playing a lot of tournaments with each other, whether I’m playing with Noe or he’s playing with Bobbi,” Rane mentioned. “That has helped us build chemistry and get more comfortable with each other.”
That seems to be paying off, as Miami is now 2-0 in the Big Apple.
They will next take on the Frisco Pandas later Friday afternoon.
