Parris Todd advances to Championship Sunday in women’s singles
PEACHTREE CORNERS, GA – The 14 seed, Parris Todd arrived on the women’s singles court primed and ready to dominate against the 7 seed, Salome Devidze. After previously upsetting No. 2 seed Catherine Parenteau, Todd has been on a roll for the Vizzy Atlanta Open.
The final score was 11-3, 11-5.
Despite some adversity with line calls and a lost challenge, Todd remained steady and came out on top in a two-game match.
“Salome is a great player and she’s a great fighter. She’s always on no matter what and every time I play her, it’s a tough match,” said Todd.
Tomorrow, Todd will meet Anna Leigh Waters to fight for the gold.
“Anna Leigh is the best in the world but I’m going to come out and I’m going to give it everything. I’m going to fight till the death, that’s for sure,” said Todd.
But during the match, Todd’s boyfriend and fellow pro, Hunter Johnson sat courtside cheering her on.
“We have so many long weeks out here and it can be so lonely. To have his coaching and his support is nice to have someone in your corner. I love you baby,” said Todd with a smile.
And of course, the crowd responded with a collective, “aww.”
