PPA Tour stars claim gold at MB Vietnam Open
PPA Tour standouts Meghan Dizon, Alix Truong, AJ Koller and Jonathan Truong made headlines at the MB Vietnam Open (PPA Tour Asia) in Ho Chi Minh City on Championship Sunday.
Dizon and Truong earned gold in women's doubles with a dominant 11-3, 11-0 victory over Lauren Mercado and Xiao Yi Wang-Beckvall in under 25 minutes.
"The game plan was just to come out with confidence and play like we did the whole weekend," explained Dizon. "I feel like we executed that well."
The triumph was particularly special to Truong, who secured her first PPA gold.
"It definitely means a lot, especially this being my first one," mentioned Truong. "I hope that there's many more. I'll be back in a couple of weeks for the tournament in Da Nang (Vietnam Cup), so I'm really looking forward to that."
Shortly after that, Koller and Truong defeated George Wall and Joseph Wild in straight games, 11-6, 11-7, to finish atop the podium in men's doubles and claim gold as well.
During the post-match interview, Koller praised his 18-year-old partner's impressive performance.
"I'm just psyched for this kid. He's an up-and-comer and he's a future star of this game. I'm a dinosaur. I'm going to be out of the sport eventually and he's going to be here for a long time, so I'm just proud of him, proud of his fight," said Koller. "He showed a ton of poise, and I think that's why people are starting to take him really seriously."
Truong, meanwhile, couldn't be happier with the way things are going for him right now.
"It feels great taking home gold. It's my first-ever win in a pro tournament. It's my second tournament while being signed with the PPA, so obviously it's exciting," he said. "AJ is obviously a veteran of the game. He has many gold medals. This is my first, so I'm just super happy to pull off the win, especially here in Vietnam. It's an honor."
The 2025 PPA Tour Asia schedule continues with the Malaysia Cup from September 24-28 in Kuala Lumpur.
