PPA Vietnam Day 4 Recap: Christian captures women’s singles title with massive comeback as Ly triumphs on home soil

The MB Hanoi Cup came to its conclusion Saturday evening with bronze medal and gold medal matches in front of an electrifying crowd at My Dinh Indoor Athletics Arena in the Vietnam capital.

The match of the day—and possibly the entire week—was the women’s singles final, where Kaitlyn Christian pulled off a stunning comeback to earn a 7-11, 14-12, 11-9 victory over Brooke Buckner.

After dropping Game 1, Christian faced a 3-8 deficit in the second game but raced back to take it after saving two match points.

The deciding game followed a similar sequence, with Christian scoring the match’s final seven points to steal the win after trailing 4-9.

This is Christian’s third career international singles title on the PPA Tour, and the world No. 3 credited the crowd with helping her fight back when she was down.

“I definitely felt the energy from the crowd,” she said. “It’s so much fun playing in front of this audience, and I look forward to coming back many, many more times.”

On the men’s side, Hoang Nam Ly defeated his compatriot Hien Truong 11-5, 11-6.

Both players representing Vietnam had memorable runs in Hanoi, with Truong taking down top-seeded Federico Staksrud in the semifinals and Ly defeating both Christian Alshon and Dylan Frazier.

“It’s very special to get my first PPA Tour Asia win in my country,” Ly said of his performances this week.

In the doubles draws, the top seeds triumphed, with both Anna Leigh Waters and Ben Johns earning two titles each.

Waters teamed up with Anna Bright to defeat Tyra Black/Catherine Parenteau in women’s doubles before closing out the weekend’s action alongside Johns with a straight-game win over Kaitlyn Christian/Christian Alshon in the mixed doubles final.

And in men’s doubles, Johns and Gabe Tardio continued their perfect 2026 campaign with an 11-0, 7-11, 11-6 victory over Hayden Patriquin/Federico Staksrud.
