Red-Hot Rafa: Lenhard stuns top seed Staksrud in epic quarterfinal
Just five days after capturing men’s singles gold at the Raleigh PPA Challenger, Rafael Lenhard is into his first career PPA Tour semifinal after a 4-11, 11-6, 12-10 victory over top-seeded Federico Staksrud.
It looked like Staksrud was in command when he got up 10-7 in the deciding game, but Lenhard saved a match point before scoring five in a row on his serve to close out the win.

“I just hit a few really good passes, and I was able to grow in confidence,” Lenhard said of the comeback. “I was on the run for a few forehands that I just absolutely laced crosscourt and down the line, and then I really started to believe that I could win.”
This result continues what has been a stellar stretch for Lenhard, who is looking to become the first player ever to win a PPA Challenger and PPA Tour event in back-to-back weeks.
“I planned it this way so that I could warm up in Raleigh with some good matches and then come out here and play the big dogs,” he mentioned.
It seems like everything is going to plan so far.
Lenhard will face No. 5 seed Gabriel Joseph in Saturday’s semifinal round.
