Schneemann, Tellez bounce Kovalova, Wright to book Round of 16 berth
SAN CLEMENTE, CA - The 18th-seeded mixed doubles pairing of Lacy Schneemann and Pablo Tellez is certainly trending in the right direction at the Select Medical Orange County Cup presented by FitVine Wines.
Schneemann and Tellez downed ninth-seeded Lucy Kovalova and Matt Wright 13-11, 11-9 on Wednesday at Life Time Rancho San Clemente to earn a spot in the Round of 16.
The victors were actually down 10-6 in the first game after surrendering nine consecutive points, but still found a way to come away with the opening stanza.
"We just stayed positive," said Tellez, in reference to the critical early comeback.
A matchup against fifth-seeded Lea Jansen and Riley Newman awaits on Thursday.
