Slice overcome Black Bears for first win of the season
OVERLAND PARK, KS - Coming into this weekend’s event in Kansas City, the Chicago Slice were the only team in Major League Pickleball without a win on the season.
It didn’t take them long to remedy that on Sunday.
The Slice—featuring Megan Fudge, Allison Harris, Martin Emmrich (temporarily filling in for Jack Munro), and Brendon Long—cruised to a 3-1 victory over the California Black Bears in their first match of the weekend.
Fudge and Harris started things off with a tightly contested win against California’s Susannah Barr and Amanda Hendry in women’s doubles.
Emmrich and Long followed suit from there, outlasting Rafa Hewett and Brandon French in men’s doubles.
Fudge and Emmrich, fueled by the confidence that comes from having a 2-0 lead, dominated Hewett and Barr 25-16 in the first mixed doubles match to seal the victory.
Both Chicago and California will be back in action throughout the rest of the weekend; the Slice will face the SoCal Hard Eights later Sunday afternoon, while the Black Bears will next face SoCal on Monday.
