Staksrud downs Duong for third title of 2024
ATASCOCITA, TX - Federico Staksrud earned his third singles title of the year Sunday morning when he beat Quang Duong 11-6, 11-2.
The No. 2 seed was able to neutralize Duong’s heavy shots and win points at the kitchen with frequency, which no one else was able to do when the 18-year-old made his run on Thursday.
This title gives Staksrud three gold and four silver medals in seven tournaments to begin the year. The Argentine credits his stellar start to the year to his holistic approach to pickleball success.
“I think it’s just doing the little things,” he said. “I’ve been working on my mental game and nutrition especially, as well as putting in a lot of hours on court. The real work is done when no one’s watching. That’s when I win these titles.”
He’ll have a shot for another gold later on Humana Championship Court when he and Pablo Tellez face Ben and Collin Johns in the men’s doubles final.
