Staksrud downs McGuffin, will face Haworth for gold
SAN CLEMENTE, CA - Federico Staksrud is into his twelfth men’s singles final of 2024 after capturing an 11-5, 11-5 victory over No. 4 seed Tyson McGuffin.
The top seed put together his best performance of the tournament so far to advance.
He’ll face No. 11 seed Chris Haworth in the final, who beat Ben Johns in three games earlier Saturday afternoon.
Haworth earned a commanding 11-6, 11-2 victory the last time they played in the semifinals of the Texas Open.
That result still stands as Staksrud’s only singles loss outside of a final so far this year, and the Argentinian hasn’t forgotten about it.
“I’m gonna have to come up with a different game plan because things didn’t work out well for me last time,” he shared. “I’m excited to see Chris again.”
Staksrud will look to secure his fifth singles title of the season, while Haworth will compete for his first PPA title.
