Team captains weigh in on what they’re looking forward to at MLP Nations Cup

In just one week, the inaugural MLP Nations Cup will begin at Brookhaven Country Club in Dallas, TX.

The first-of-its-kind MLP event will bring together eight teams representing eight global regions to compete for their share of a $50,000 prize pool in the kickoff to the 2026 Opendoor Pickleball World Championships.

In anticipation of what promises to be a memorable weekend of pickleball, the league reached out to some of the team captains to see how they’re feeling ahead of the event.

Specifically, the captains were asked what makes this competition more exciting than a traditional MLP event.

And the consensus was clear: that being able to compete for national pride will bring an unmatched energy to the MLP format.

Here’s what the team captains from Team Asia Domestic, Team Canada, and Team Europe – West had to say.

Jeff Tsao, Team Asia Domestic:

“We love this event in that it brings the pickleball universe together. It’s rare to see the different cultures and countries come together and have the best competition in the world. The global growth of pickleball has been unmatched in any sport, and this is our chance to see who has what it takes to be the best of the best!”

Steve Deakin, Team Canada

“This event feels more special than a typical MLP event as it showcases how this sport has grown internationally. It is also incredibly special to represent your country in a team event while wearing your country’s colors. When your country calls, you answer the phone.”

Chris Cantino, Team Europe – West

“We’re all representing our heritage, competing for something bigger than ourselves. It’s for our families and countrymen. That pride adds something you’ll never experience outside of the Nations Cup.”

By all accounts, it’s gearing up to be a special weekend in the Lone Star State.

The action begins Oct. 30; buy tickets here.
