Texas completes comeback, surges into semifinals
The Texas Ranchers notched their second victory of the day over the DC Pickleball Team to advance to the Premier level semifinals.
The squad featuring Christian Alshon, Etta Wright, Tina Pisnik, and Quang Duong dropped the opening match on Saturday, but they rallied for two victories on Sunday to steal the series.
“I think we’re strongest when everything goes wrong,” Pisnik said of her team. “It was a tough day yesterday. We had game points in two matches and ended up losing 1-3. We made little adjustments, came back stronger, and just fought through adversity.”
Those adjustments proved to be especially crucial for Pisnik in mixed doubles, where she and Duong picked up their first victory in four tries over DC’s Dekel Bar/Vivian Glozman to give Texas a 2-1 advantage.
From there, Alshon/Wright picked up their second consecutive victory over James Ignatowich/Rachel Rohrabacher to secure the triumph.
Ranchers general manager and coach Ryan Dawidjan says Sunday’s victories are testament to the team's work ethic.
“I think we’ve got four of the hardest-working players on the tour, and they put in reps every week to get better,” he mentioned. “We can’t wait to make a few more adjustments and see who wants to play us in Orlando.”
Texas will face either the New Jersey 5s or St. Louis Shock in the MLP Orlando Playoffs, set to run Nov. 22-24.
