Upset Alert: Staksrud, Wright knock out the Johns brothers in two games
PEACHTREE CORNERS, GA – Just a day after a marquee victory in the quarterfinals, Ben and Collin Johns have been defeated in the Peach State, falling to the first-time pairing of Matt Wright and Federico Staksrud.
The final score was 11-5, 11-3.
“We’ve only played three or four matches together, so we’re growing together but we’re confident in one another," Wright said of the partnership. "Our gamestyles definitely complement each other."
It was clear that Staksrud and Wright came in wanting to dictate the pace of play and finish points on their terms.
“Our strategy going in was to be aggressive," Staksrud explained. "We didn't want to stay there dinking for 10 hours. I’d love to do that, but I don’t think that would go in our favor. Matt had a lot of good looks, and he took advantage of the openings."
The No. 3 seeds will face Dylan Frazier and JW Johnson on Championship Sunday.
