Waters and Parenteau, Johns and Johns advance to semis with pickle performances
In Saturday’s first matches, the top-seeded pairings of Anna Leigh Waters and Catherine Parenteau and Ben and Collin Johns put forth dominant quarterfinal performances.
Waters and Parenteau took down No. 7 seeds Parris Todd and Jade Kawamoto 11-0, 11-1 in a match that lasted just over 20 minutes.
They will face No. 4 seeds Lea Jansen and Callie Smith in the semifinals.
Not to be outdone, the Johns bros earned a pickle of their own in Game 3 of their quarterfinal bout against No. 7 seeds Dekel Bar and Hunter Johnson.
The contest began on Friday before play was suspended due to lighting concerns. The top seeds led 11-7, 3-8 before stopping but went on to prevail by an 11-7, 3-11, 11-0 score line when all was said and done.
They will face No. 9 seeds Riley Newman and Rafa Hewett later on Saturday with a spot in the finals on the line.
Because they are still alive in all three events, both Waters and Johns will play three more matches Saturday afternoon; we'll see if fatigue plays a role as the day rolls on.
