Waters, Bright cruise past Todd, Parenteau for women’s doubles title

In 2024, Anna Leigh Waters and Anna Bright competed against each other for women’s doubles gold at Brookhaven Country Club.

This year, at the same venue, the two superstars joined forces and secured the title with a dominant 11-2, 11-2, 11-5 victory over No. 2 seeds Parris Todd/Catherine Parenteau.

The top seeds played one of their cleanest matches of the week, expertly transitioning from defense to offense in high-octane hands battles at the kitchen line.

This win gives Waters/Bright their third consecutive title together after suffering semifinal defeats at back-to-back tournaments earlier this summer in Las Vegas and Cincinnati.

Waters spoke afterwards about how important facing those earlier losses was for her and Bright.

“I honestly think it was really good for our partnership,” she said. “Even when we lost those two matches, there was never a doubt that this isn’t the right partnership. It was just that we needed to figure some stuff out, and I really feel like that pushed us to figure those things out and ultimately improve.”

This win gives Waters her 167th PPA Tour title, which brings her into a tie with Ben Johns for most all-time.

The 18-year-old will have a chance to break that tie later Sunday afternoon when she faces Kate Fahey in the women’s singles final, while Bright will also be in action alongside Hayden Patriquin in the mixed doubles bronze medal match.
