Waters, Bright outduel Black, Todd for women’s singles crown
Anna Leigh Waters/Anna Bright kicked off Carvana Championship Sunday action in Minnesota with an 11-1, 6-11, 11-3, 11-5 victory over No. 3 seeds Tyra Black/Parris Todd.
The match seemed to hang in the balance after Todd/Black won Game 2 after having a slow start in Game 1, but Waters/Bright regained the upper hand and comfortably took the third and fourth games to secure their 16th title together.

Bright spoke afterwards about how valuable it is to have Leigh Waters on the bench in big matches.
“It’s really helpful. Anna Leigh and I, we both get in this kill, kill, kill mentality and sometimes see the trees instead of seeing the forest, so it’s really good to have that sage perspective from Leigh,” she mentioned.
While Waters is finished for the day on account of playing only one event this week, the other three competitors from this contest will be back in action later; Bright and Black will face off in the mixed doubles final, while Todd will take on Lea Jansen for women’s singles gold.
