Waters, Parenteau battle past Kawamoto sisters to make women’s doubles final
Anna Leigh Waters and Catherine Parenteau marched into the women’s doubles final in Las Vegas behind an 11-8, 11-8 victory over Jackie and Jade Kawamoto.
It was a pretty tame score line for the top seeds, considering they had to overcome a 3-9 Game 3 deficit the last time they faced off against the Kawamotos at the Desert Ridge Open in February.
Waters and Parenteau were able to get the job done in two games on Saturday, breaking through the strong defense and unpredictable lobs of their opponents.
“When you’re playing them, you have to remember to not try to force too many speedups because they’re great defensively,” Waters explained. “They’re also very tricky to go against, so it comes down to playing your game and sticking to the game plan.”
They will take on either Anna Bright and Rachel Rohrabacher or Lea Jansen and Lucy Kovalova on Championship Sunday, where they’ll have a shot at claiming their thirteenth title of 2024.
