Waters wows to secure women’s singles title No. 50

Anna Leigh Waters kicked off Carvana Championship Sunday action at the Black Desert Resort Red Rock Open with an 11-2, 11-7 victory over Parris Todd to claim her fiftieth career women’s singles title on the PPA Tour.

The top seed put forth a dominant effort in the opening game, finding balance between power and precision on her passing shots to take it in just under fifteen minutes.

Todd—who will also compete in the mixed doubles final and women’s doubles bronze medal match later on Sunday—took a medical timeout in between the first and second games but was able to return to the court a few minutes later.

Waters was unaffected by the brief pause in action, though, and withstood a seven-point run from Todd to eventually close out the encounter in straight games and earn singles title No. 50.

Even though Sunday’s triumph marks yet another milestone in Waters’ illustrious career, the 18-year-old says that she tries not to think about the accolades while on court.

“I’m glad that I wasn’t thinking about it to put any extra pressure on myself, especially against a great opponent like Parris,” she mentioned. “You don’t want to be thinking about other things during a match against her, so I’m super excited to have won 50.”

Waters will be back in action on Humana Championship Court on Sunday when she and Catherine Parenteau battle Etta Tuionetoa and Allyce Jones in the women’s doubles final.

That match—in addition to the men’s singles and mixed doubles finals—will be broadcast live on FOX National beginning at 4:30pm ET in the PPA’s first national network TV stint of 2025.

“It’s just an amazing experience to be on FOX,” Waters said. “It’s great for pickleball, it’s great for me, and it’s great for the fans. It’s even better for the people who don’t even know what pickleball us because they’ll be exposed to it. I’m really excited for it.”

In the bronze medal match, Lea Jansen defeated Kaitlyn Christian 11-8, 11-3 to capture her third straight podium finish in singles.
