Alshon 'feeling prepared and ready to go' for Lapiplasty Pickleball World Championships
It has been an interesting year for Christian Alshon in the picklesphere.
There was the incredible high of winning gold in men's doubles alongside Quang Duong at the PPA Tour's IHG Hotels Resorts Bristol Open, and the lows of being forced to pull out of singles competition and MLP Dallas due to injury.
Fortunately, Alshon has been using the time off between the Rate Championships and the Lapiplasty Pickleball World Championships to recover and prepare himself for the biggest tournament of the season.
“These two weeks have been very helpful, for my head and for my knee injury as well. I’ve been working out a lot, and that’s something I haven’t been able to do in the last four or five months because I’ve been injured,” explained Alshon. “I’ve rested a lot, which is necessary for recovery. In Vegas, I started working out at tournaments to hopefully get my leg strong enough to overcome this knee injury. I’ve been in the gym with my trainer and physical therapist, and we have a schedule of everything I need to work on each day. That doesn’t even include playing pickleball. There’s so much outside of pickleball that you have to do.”
That all-important schedule is a roadmap that provides key direction.
There's a concrete plan in place, which eliminates any confusion training-wise and leaves more time for active rest as well.
“It’s important to have a plan for what I'm doing each day. Whether it’s taking a day off to work out and doing physical therapy and playing pickleball, that’s been really helpful,” added Alshon. “But, I’m feeling prepared and ready to go to Dallas.”
Alshon will partner with Etta Wright for mixed doubles and James Ignatowich for men’s doubles at Brookhaven Country Club come early November.
