Ben Johns reflects on 2025 Masters triumph with Collin

The 2025 Carvana PPA Masters marked the final tournament where Ben Johns and Collin Johns competed as a team.

Their dominance on the court was undeniable. Over the course of 58 tournaments together, they claimed a total of 43 medals, including 33 gold—a remarkable record that reflects both their time on the court and their consistent success.

During an appearance on the Pickleballers podcast, Ben shared how meaningful it was to compete alongside his older brother.

“Getting to play a professional sport with your brother is an incredible privilege. Period. And to do it at that high of a level – even better,” he praised. “It’s amazing to work together every day, be dominant, and win a bunch of tournaments together. It’s phenomenal.”

Ben first discovered pickleball while Collin was training at a nearby tennis court. At the time, Collin was a professional tennis player, and Ben served as his hitting partner. After getting a head start in pickleball, Ben eventually persuaded Collin to make the switch.

From 2022 to 2025, Ben and Collin enjoyed their most dominant era. What went on behind the scenes that propelled them to such elite heights?

“A lot of the credit goes to Collin. How we would train was he would do a lot of the analysis and decide what we needed to work on. We’d have some discourse and talk it through, but it was 90% drilling and 10% actually playing because at that time it was very pattern-based,” explained Ben. “It was all about getting better at very specific shots in very specific scenarios.”

Ben and Collin understood that their success couldn’t last forever.

Knowing this, they reminded each other to cherish the time they had together on the court and to savor every moment while it lasted.

“We both were reminding each other that we need to appreciate this because it’s really hard to do and it probably won’t happen for all that long,” shared Ben.

Eventually, they were forced to make the difficult decision to part ways.

“It came to the point where no professional athlete wants to be losing, and neither of us were happy about it,” mentioned Ben. “Collin was an incredible partner for me. We trained Collin from the ground up to be really good at playing with my game style.”

Fortunately, Ben and Collin closed their chapter with a gold-medal victory.

Ben reflected on the experience in a video on his YouTube channel.

“Going into it was very different mentally compared to where we usually were. We were going to get the most out of it, no matter what happens. Of course, we’re always there to win. But more than anything, we wanted to enjoy ourselves, and that also helped us play loose,” he said. “I always associate that tournament a lot with Collin, so it was a very cool tournament for that to be the last one. I remember I was so satisfied and happy that we could go out on such a high note.”
