Inside Callie Smith’s home: Pickleball paddles galore and a hidden talent

A new series called Victoria Visits was recently launched on the Pickleball.com YouTube channel where I travel to notable pickleball locations around the country — even stopping by the homes of professional players.

In the debut episode, Allyce Jones showcased her incredible backyard pickleball court set against Utah’s stunning scenery.

Just a few minutes from Jones lives Callie Smithknown as the "Rapunzel" of pro pickleball — who gave us an inside look at her busy home life.

Step inside Smith’s home and it’s immediately obvious you’re in the residence of a pickleballer. The place is overflowing with pickleballs and paddles, with buckets of them tucked in closets, cabinets, and scattered throughout the house.

And out back, Smith has a pristine pickleball court they finished building this year, complete with an incredible backdrop of the Utah mountains.

“My pickleball court is kind of a dream come true. It’s mine and Kyle’s Christmas, anniversary, birthday, and next year’s Christmas present,” she said.

“Allyce [Jones] lives about five minutes away, so she’ll come to my place and train, or I’ll go to hers depending on the weather. Both of our kids take tennis lessons together, so we’ll carpool, too. It’s so great to be close to another pro and a mom.”

Of course, no pro pickleball home is complete without recovery amenities. Smith’s back deck features both a cold plunge and a hot tub, and inside she and her husband make full use of an impressive home gym. Her kitchen is stocked with protein shakes, water bottles, and all the essentials an athlete needs to stay in peak condition.

But the thing that surprised me most was right in Smith’s living room. She has a piano — its keys covered in stickers as she teaches her kids to play — and when I asked if she played, she was incredibly nonchalant about it.

“I like to play piano,” said Smith. “I’m not the best piano player, but I enjoy it.”

It turns out Smith is an avid pianist who doesn’t get to play as often as she’d like due to her pickleball travels, but she clearly hasn’t lost any of her skill.

She sat down and played “My Heart Will Go On” from Titanic, delivering a performance that could easily grace a concert stage.

Unlike those who favor a minimalist approach with just a few family photos, Smith and her family fill their home with dozens. From a selfie of her and her husband on their very first date, to her kids’ school pictures, and old tennis photos with her and her sisters, the abundance of photographs highlights just how central family is to her life.

Her home is like a living scrapbook of family and loved ones, radiating warmth and charm.
