Munro: Content creation keeps monotony of practice at bay

Pickleball and content creation go hand in hand these days, which is a good thing.

It promotes the sport to a worldwide audience across a variety of social media platforms and boosts interest in the process.

There's an important brand-building component for individual players as well, of course, with YouTube, Instagram and TikTok affording athletes prime opportunities to showcase their personalities around the globe.

For some competitors, though, content creation keeps the monotony of pickleball practice and drilling at bay.

University of Texas at Austin standout, 21-year-old Jack Munro, is a believer.

"A lot of what I do on YouTube is purely something that I scripted or thought would be fun. It really helped me kind of just look at the sport in a different way where it wasn't just like wake up, train, train, train, train, repeat," explained Munro for a segment featured on KVUE on Wednesday. "It was like wake up, train, we have a breath of fresh air doing some fun content, and then train again and then repeat."

It's hard to believe that one of the game's rising stars came upon America's fastest-growing sport by "sheer luck."

He actually picked up a paddle because of an injury.

"I played baseball for seven years growing up and then fractured my growth plate pitching when I was 10 years old," shared Munro. "While I was in a sling, I started playing pickleball."

Now, he's a regular at Reyes Performance Institute (RPI), home of Austin's only RacquetFit Certified physical therapists.

The sessions keep him sharp for play and content creation alike.

"I feel like I'm talking to someone who knows my sport," stated Munro. "Every single workout that we do, I can literally look and be like, 'Ok, this applies to pickleball because this is a shot I'd hit.'"
